Position Overview

The Biology Teacher is responsible for delivering Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s Biology program for students in Grades 7–12. Instruction is aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum, both in content and methodology. At the high school level, teachers may also support coursework within the rigorous and internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Biology curriculum in alignment with established school programs and, where applicable, the IB framework
  • Teach up to five subject-area classes, each meeting daily
  • Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction grounded in clear learning objectives
  • Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback, including progress reports and report cards
  • Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Science Department Chair and Leadership Team
  • Collaborate weekly with Science Department colleagues on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data analysis
  • Maintain effective classroom management using the school’s assertive discipline model
  • Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology (required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and make informed decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a team
  • Ability to plan and deliver instruction that meets diverse student needs
  • Knowledge of subject matter, instructional best practices, and applicable laws and regulations

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Science Department Chair and is evaluated annually as part of an annual appointment.
