Job Description:
The English Teacher is responsible for delivering the English curriculum for Grades 7-12 at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS). This role involves teaching the Core Knowledge and Great Books programs in alignment with our school’s rigorous curriculum, and may also include teaching International Baccalaureate (IB) English coursework for high school students.
Responsibilities:
Implement the English program according to the documented curriculum, incorporating the Great Books literature program and IB methodologies where applicable. Teachers are typically assigned five subject-area classes, each of which meets daily.
Deliver engaging lessons based on clear learning objectives that support student success.
Regularly assess student progress, providing timely progress reports and report cards as required.
Administer standardized tests as directed by the English Department Chair and the Leadership Team.
Collaborate weekly with colleagues in the English department, including the Department Chair, focusing on curriculum development, instructional strategies, assessment techniques, data analysis, and methodology.
Utilize the school’s assertive discipline model to maintain a positive and productive classroom environment.
Participate in staff meetings and professional development programs.
Perform other duties as assigned by the English Department Chair or Assistant Director.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Experience in writing reports, correspondence, and interpreting data.
Ability to evaluate student performance and provide clear, actionable feedback.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and the broader community.
Understanding and adherence to school policies, state and federal laws, and MVRCS guidelines.
Ability to plan and deliver lessons tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.
Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
Knowledge of specialized content areas, along with related laws and procedures.
Completion of applicable MTEL tests within one year of employment.
This position reports to the English Department Chair. It will be evaluated annually and offers an annual appointment.
