Position Overview
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic History Teacher to provide Large Group Instruction (LGI) for students in Grades 1–6. In the LGI model, students receive content-area instruction in a larger lecture-style setting designed to maximize engagement, reinforce key concepts, and ensure consistency of curriculum delivery across grade levels.
The successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in history, excellent presentation skills, and a passion for helping students develop a deep understanding of historical events, cultures, geography, and civics. This position is ideal for an educator who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys delivering high-quality instruction to large groups of elementary students.
Essential Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and content-rich history instruction to students in Grades 1–6 through the Large Group Instruction (LGI) model.
- Present lessons aligned with the school's Core Knowledge curriculum and instructional philosophy.
- Develop and implement assessments to monitor student progress and mastery of content.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student achievement.
- Foster student engagement through clear communication, storytelling, discussion, and interactive instructional techniques.
- Collaborate with grade-level teachers and school leadership to ensure curriculum alignment and instructional consistency.
- Maintain high academic and behavioral expectations while creating a positive learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and academic expectations.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as required.
- Support the mission, values, and academic standards of Mystic Valley Regional Charter School.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Director, Assistant Superintendent, or Superintendent/Director.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree required; History, Education, Political Science, Classics, or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of history and related social science disciplines.
- Excellent verbal communication and public presentation skills.
- Ability to engage and manage large groups of students effectively.
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
- Ability to analyze student performance data and use findings to improve instruction.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to high academic standards and student achievement.
Preferred
- Prior teaching experience at the elementary or middle school level.
- Familiarity with the Core Knowledge curriculum.
- Experience delivering instruction in a large-group, lecture-style, or presentation-based setting.
- Massachusetts teaching licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Assistant Director and is subject to annual evaluation and reappointment.
