Position Overview: 7–12th Grade History Teacher
Mystic Valley seeks a passionate and knowledgeable History Teacher to join our 7–12th grade faculty. The successful candidate will implement the Core Knowledge curriculum and may also be assigned to teach within our distinguished International Baccalaureate (IB) program at the high school level. This role is ideal for an educator who is enthusiastic about classical history, civics, and the development of critical thinking skills through a content-rich approach to instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver daily instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge Sequence and, when applicable, the IB curriculum
Teach five subject-area classes that meet daily, according to the school’s academic schedule
Create and implement clear, objective-driven lessons and units of study
Regularly assess and monitor student progress; issue timely progress reports and report cards
Administer standardized tests as directed by the History Department Chair and Leadership Team
Collaborate weekly with colleagues in the History Department to refine curriculum, share instructional strategies, and analyze student data
Enforce consistent classroom management practices using the school’s assertive discipline model
Attend all faculty meetings and participate in professional development sessions
Perform additional duties as assigned by the History Department Chair and/or Assistant Director
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in History or a closely related field (Master’s preferred)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to analyze data and make informed instructional decisions
Strong classroom presence and ability to manage a structured academic environment
Experience assessing student work and providing actionable feedback
Collaborative spirit and ability to contribute to a team-oriented department
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Knowledge of relevant educational laws, regulations, and best practices
Ability to design lessons that align with both school objectives and student needs
Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) within one year of hire
This full-time position reports directly to the History Department Chair. It is an annual appointment and will be evaluated each year.
