Special Education Teacher
Job Description:
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher to join our team. This role is responsible for managing a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, ensuring services are provided in accordance with each student’s specific needs and legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in accordance with their IEPs or 504 Plans in a supportive and structured learning environment.
Develop and communicate clear learning objectives for all lessons.
Use specialized instructional strategies and techniques to enhance student development in areas such as language, cognition, sensory and perceptual-motor skills, and memory.
Deliver academic instruction using techniques including phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to accommodate diverse learning needs.
Maintain a positive, productive classroom climate by implementing school-wide behavioral expectations and procedures.
Maintain detailed and accurate service logs, lesson plans, and student data in accordance with legal and school requirements.
Attend IEP meetings and act as the case manager and primary point of contact for assigned students.
Complete quarterly progress reports for students on your caseload.
Collaborate regularly with general education teachers and other service providers by participating in weekly team meetings and multidisciplinary planning.
Partner with parents, administrators, specialists, and support staff to develop, implement, and monitor individualized educational programs.
Support the administration and preparation of standardized testing, including accommodations.
Maintain professional competence through participation in ongoing professional development and curriculum meetings.
Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned, including school-wide duties (e.g., afternoon dismissal duty, document shredding).
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (required)
SEI Endorsement (required)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to assess situations, gather data, and recommend appropriate interventions
Strong collaborative skills and a team-oriented mindset
Experience evaluating student skills and interpreting assessment data to inform instruction
Knowledge of special education laws, best practices, and instructional techniques
Proficiency in developing and implementing IEPs and 504 Plans
Effective classroom management and organizational skills
Commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students
Successful completion of applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment
This position reports to the Head of Special Education and is an annual appointment, subject to yearly evaluation.
