Business Manager

Position Overview
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS), the second largest K–12 Commonwealth Charter School in Massachusetts, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Business Manager to oversee the school’s financial operations and ensure long-term fiscal stability. This critical role involves high-level strategizing, forecasting, and resource allocation within a structured, high-expectations academic environment serving over 1,750 students and growing to 1,900.
The salary range for this position is $120,000-$140,000, commensurate with experience, with the opportunity for a performance-based bonus. The position is expected to be filled no later than April 1, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Year-End Operations:
Prepare accurate Monthly Financial Statements for the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations. Manage the comprehensive year-end closing process and coordinate with the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations in preparing for the annual audit.
Budgeting & Planning:
Assist in the development, streamlining, and implementation of the annual school budget and five-year financial forecasts.
Staff Supervision:
Provide direct supervision, training, and professional development opportunities for the accounting staff.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
Assist in preparing and submitting required reports to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), including Annual Reports and fiscal compliance documentation.
Reimbursement Oversight:
Oversee the accurate reporting and reconciliation for state and federal reimbursement programs, specifically for school meals (National School Lunch Program) and transportation services.
Procurement & Operations:
Collaborate with school administrators to create and review purchase orders, ensuring all school procurement follows state law and internal policies.
Qualifications (include but are not limited to)
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
Experience leading accounting and financial teams
Experience in municipal or school finance, including specialized knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws (MGL) and DESE regulations specific to Charter Schools
Technical Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling
Experience with school-based Student Information Management Systems
Experience with PowerSchool software and cloud-based financial solutions a plus
Soft Skills:
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in a professional setting.
Understanding of Charter School operations and finance is strongly preferred but not required.
