MVRCS operates on an extended academic calendar, featuring a 200-day school year and a school day that is approximately one hour longer than that of most traditional public schools. Students in Grades K–12 attend school in dress code, helping to foster a focused, disciplined, and academically rigorous learning environment.
Position Overview
The Biology Teacher is responsible for implementing Mystic Valley Regional Charter School's Biology program for students in Grades 7–12. Instruction is delivered in accordance with the Core Knowledge curriculum and methodology. At the high school level, teaching assignments may also include coursework within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, one of the most rigorous and internationally recognized academic programs in the world.
Responsibilities
- Implement the Biology curriculum in alignment with established school programs and, when applicable, International Baccalaureate standards.
- Teach up to five subject-area classes, each meeting daily.
- Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction centered on clear learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Assess student progress regularly and maintain accurate records through progress reports, report cards, and other required documentation.
- Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Science Department Chair and school leadership.
- Collaborate regularly with members of the Science Department, including the Department Chair, to ensure consistency in curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis, and methodology.
- Foster a positive and productive classroom environment through the consistent implementation of the school's assertive discipline model.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and other school functions as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or a closely related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of biology and life science content.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound instructional decisions.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational, classroom management, and time-management skills.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to assess student learning, analyze data, and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Ability to plan and deliver instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners while maintaining high academic standards.
- Knowledge of best practices in science instruction and applicable educational regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Science Department Chair, Assistant Director, Assistant Superintendent, and/or Superintendent/Director.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Science Department Chair. Performance is evaluated annually, and the position is renewed on a yearly basis.
