Position: Physics Teacher (Grades 7–12)

Job Summary:
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic Physics Teacher to deliver engaging, high-quality instruction in Grades 7–12. The successful candidate will implement the Core Knowledge curriculum and, when applicable, the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge and IB frameworks.

  • Teach five physics classes daily, tailoring content to student needs and course requirements.

  • Design and adapt instructional materials and lesson plans to support all learners.

  • Evaluate and grade classwork, lab work, assignments, papers, and assessments.

  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and grades.

  • Supervise and support students during laboratory activities.

  • Administer and grade assessments, including periodic standardized testing.

  • Provide extra help to students outside of class time, as needed.

  • Collaborate regularly with colleagues in the Science Department to discuss curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data analysis.

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school committees.

  • Enforce the school’s assertive discipline model consistently and fairly.

  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned, which may include:

    • Lunch or study hall supervision

    • Proctoring exams

    • Covering classes as needed

    • Teaching MCAS Math preparation sessions for sophomores

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Physics or a closely related field.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to write clear, concise reports and correspondence.

  • Analytical skills to evaluate student progress and recommend instructional adjustments.

  • Collaborative mindset and the ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Familiarity with educational laws, policies, and best practices.

  • Experience interpreting student data and reporting academic performance.

  • Effective classroom management and leadership skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of subject-area content and related educational standards.

  • Ability to plan and implement lessons that meet district and school goals while supporting diverse student needs.

  • Successful completion of all applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment.

Supervision and Evaluation:
This position reports to the Science Department Chair. Performance will be reviewed annually, and the appointment is for one academic year, with potential for renewal.
