Position Summary

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Spanish Teacher to join our World Languages Department and teach students in Grades 7–12.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging Spanish instruction aligned with the school's Core Knowledge curriculum and instructional philosophy. High school teaching assignments may include International Baccalaureate (IB) Spanish courses, providing students with a rigorous, college-level learning experience.

The ideal candidate is passionate about language acquisition, cultural literacy, and fostering strong communication skills while maintaining high academic expectations in a structured classroom environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Spanish instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum and, when assigned, the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
  • Teach five daily classes using instructional strategies that promote language proficiency, cultural understanding, and academic excellence.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional units with clear learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback and maintaining accurate academic records.
  • Prepare report cards, progress reports, and other required student documentation.
  • Collaborate regularly with members of the World Languages Department and Department Chair to strengthen curriculum, instruction, assessment practices, and student achievement.
  • Implement the school's assertive discipline model and maintain a structured, respectful classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress and academic expectations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, department meetings, and other required school events.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the World Languages Department Chair and/or Assistant Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Spanish Education, World Languages, or a closely related field required.
  • Massachusetts Spanish licensure (or eligibility to obtain licensure).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective second-language acquisition and instructional practices.
  • Ability to develop engaging lessons that meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Experience assessing student performance and using data to inform instruction.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, families, and school leadership.
  • Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL requirements within one year of employment.
  • U.S. work authorization required.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the World Languages Department Chair and is an annual appointment subject to yearly evaluation.
