Position Overview
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School seeks an intellectually curious, knowledgeable, and engaging Economics Teacher for grades 9–12. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in free-market economic theory, economic history, and the classical liberal tradition, with particular familiarity with the Austrian School of economics.
Successful candidates will be well versed in the works and ideas of influential economic thinkers such as Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, and other scholars whose work has contributed to the study of markets, incentives, entrepreneurship, individual liberty, and limited government.
The Economics Teacher will challenge students to think critically about economic systems, public policy, constitutional government, monetary institutions, and the principles that shape prosperous and free societies. Through rigorous instruction, thoughtful discussion, and close examination of primary-source materials, the teacher will cultivate intellectual curiosity, analytical reasoning, and civil discourse.
Responsibilities
- Teach high school economics courses emphasizing:
- Free-market economics
- Austrian economic thought
- Economic history
- Entrepreneurship and innovation
- Monetary theory and policy
- The philosophical and institutional foundations of economic liberty
- Introduce students to primary-source texts and seminal works from major economic thinkers.
- Foster analytical thinking, evidence-based discussion, and respectful debate.
- Design and implement engaging lessons, assessments, and instructional materials aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, International Baccalaureate standards, and the school's academic mission.
- Maintain high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Promote strong student engagement and achievement through content-rich instruction.
- Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support school-wide goals and culture.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school activities as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Massachusetts teaching licensure in History, Economics, Social Studies, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of economic theory, economic history, and classical liberal thought.
- Familiarity with the writings and ideas of Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, and related scholars.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
- Ability to engage students in rigorous discussion of economic, historical, and civic issues.
- Commitment to academic excellence, intellectual honesty, and content-rich instruction.

Compensation
Salary range: $60,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and educational background.
