Founded in 1998, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS) in Malden, MA serves more than 1,750 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Students attend school for 200 instructional days, and the school day is extended by 60 minutes compared to most traditional public schools. This additional time allows for increased instructional depth, enrichment opportunities, and consistent support for student success.

K–8 Music Teacher

The K–8 Music Teacher will lead Mystic Valley’s comprehensive music program, fostering students’ artistic development, musicianship, and appreciation for the performing arts. Instruction follows the Core Knowledge curriculum and emphasizes performance, composition, foundational musical skills, and individualized coaching to help students reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality music instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum and school-wide standards.

  • Design string and general music lessons with clear, measurable objectives that promote musical growth.

  • Assess student performance on a regular basis and provide timely progress updates through reports and communication with families.

  • Collaborate closely with members of the Specials Department and maintain ongoing communication with the assigned Assistant Director.

  • Implement the school’s assertive discipline model to support a positive, structured, and productive learning environment.

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required school events.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field (required).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information, solve problems, and recommend effective solutions.

  • Ability to cultivate positive, supportive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Knowledge of state and federal educational regulations, school policies, and MVRCS procedures.

  • Experience teaching strings, coaching student performers, and engaging learners across varying skill levels.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned to school goals and student needs.

  • Successful completion of all required MTEL exams within the first year of employment.

Reporting Structure

This is a full-time, school-year position reporting to the Assistant Director. Performance is evaluated annually, and the position is renewed on a yearly basis.
