Position Summary

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Grades K-8 Physical Education Teacher to join our lower school faculty.

The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive physical education program that promotes physical fitness, skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong healthy habits. The successful candidate will create a structured, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that encourages students of varying abilities to participate, develop their skills, and build confidence through physical activity.

Many physical education classes are conducted outdoors. The teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe and well-managed environment and ensuring the health and well-being of students throughout each class period.

Responsibilities

The Grades K-8 Physical Education Teacher will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons aligned with MVRCS curriculum, learning objectives, and instructional expectations.
  • Provide students with opportunities to develop physical fitness, coordination, athletic skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and an understanding of healthy lifestyles.
  • Establish clear learning objectives and provide structured instruction appropriate for high school students of varying abilities.
  • Create a positive, safe, organized, and inclusive environment that encourages active student participation.
  • Monitor student safety and well-being during indoor and outdoor physical education activities.
  • Assess student performance and progress on a regular basis and complete required progress reports and report cards.
  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior and consistently implement MVRCS classroom management practices.
  • Adapt instruction and activities when appropriate to meet individual student needs and required accommodations.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to student participation, performance, and progress.
  • Collaborate regularly with colleagues, department leadership, and school administration.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with students, families, faculty, and staff.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, professional development programs, and other required school activities.
  • Support and adhere to all MVRCS policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director or school administration.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a closely related field.
  • Strong knowledge of physical education instruction, fitness, wellness, and age-appropriate athletic activities.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • The ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and members of the school community.
  • The ability to evaluate information, identify problems, and determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Strong collaboration, teaching, coaching, and leadership skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively in a fast-paced school environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable requirements, procedures, and best practices related to physical education and student safety.
  • The ability to perform all responsibilities in accordance with school requirements, state and federal laws, and MVRCS policies.
  • Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) requirements within one year of employment.

Employment

This position is evaluated annually and is subject to annual appointment.
