Position Summary
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Grades 1–6 Paraprofessionals to join our elementary school team.
No prior classroom or teaching experience is required. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in beginning a career in education, gaining hands-on classroom experience, or making a meaningful impact in the lives of students.
Paraprofessionals work closely with classroom teachers to support instruction, reinforce classroom expectations, and help students succeed academically and socially.
MVRCS provides professional development and on-the-job support to help new team members develop the skills needed to be successful in the classroom.
Responsibilities
As a Grades 1–6 Paraprofessional, you will:
- Work alongside classroom teachers to support daily instruction and classroom routines.
- Provide individual and small-group academic support to students.
- Assist with reading, language, mathematics, reasoning, writing, spelling, and other academic subjects as assigned.
- Reinforce concepts introduced by the classroom teacher and help students complete independent and group assignments.
- Encourage students to remain attentive, prepared, engaged, and on task.
- Support positive student behavior by consistently reinforcing classroom and school-wide expectations.
- Monitor student progress and provide additional assistance to students who need help reaching proficiency or mastery.
- Assist teachers with checking, recording, and grading student work as assigned.
- Help students correct assignments and better understand academic material.
- Administer checkouts, retests, or other assessments under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Assist with tracking incomplete student assignments and required work.
- Participate in assigned morning arrival, lunch/recess, and afternoon dismissal or bus duties.
- Attend Back-to-School Night and other required school events.
- Participate in school-provided professional development and training.
- Support and adhere to all MVRCS policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher or Leadership Team.
Qualifications
No previous classroom experience is required.
Candidates should possess:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- An interest in working with elementary-aged students and supporting their academic growth.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A dependable, professional, and positive attitude.
- The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other members of the school community.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow established classroom routines and procedures.
- The ability to maintain high expectations for student behavior and academic performance.
- A willingness to learn and participate in ongoing professional development.
- The ability to perform responsibilities in accordance with school requirements, state and federal laws, and MVRCS policies.
- Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) requirements within one year of employment, if required for the position.
Compensation & Employment
Annual Salary: $35,000
This is a full-time position that is evaluated annually and subject to annual appointment.
