Special Education Teacher
Job Description:
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a compassionate, student-focused Special Education Teacher to join our dedicated team. This role is responsible for providing high-quality instructional support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to meeting the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of all learners while ensuring full compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in accordance with their IEPs and 504 Plans in a structured, inclusive, and supportive environment
Establish and communicate clear, measurable learning objectives for all lessons
Employ specialized instructional strategies to support development in areas such as language, cognitive skills, sensory integration, and memory retention
Deliver differentiated academic instruction using research-based techniques, including phonetics, multisensory approaches, and scaffolded repetition
Promote a positive and productive classroom environment by implementing school-wide behavioral expectations and proactive management strategies
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including service delivery logs, lesson plans, and student performance data
Serve as case manager and primary contact for students on your caseload, including coordinating and participating in IEP meetings
Complete quarterly progress reports and contribute to comprehensive evaluations and re-evaluations
Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and related service providers during weekly team meetings and multidisciplinary planning sessions
Partner effectively with parents, administrators, and support staff to develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans
Support the administration and facilitation of standardized assessments, including ensuring appropriate accommodations
Participate in professional development sessions, curriculum alignment initiatives, and school-wide instructional planning
Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include dismissal supervision, clerical tasks, and other school-related responsibilities
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (required)
SEI Endorsement (required)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to assess student needs and implement effective, data-driven interventions
Collaborative mindset with a commitment to teamwork and shared responsibility
Experience analyzing assessment data to inform instruction and monitor progress
Solid understanding of special education laws, instructional best practices, and IEP/504 development
Excellent classroom management and organizational skills
Commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs
Successful completion of all applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment
Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Head of Special Education and is a full-time, annual appointment subject to yearly evaluation.
